Vision

A national peak body developing best practice for safer communities, while taking care of our volunteers.

Purpose

To work with all levels of government, the emergency service sector and relevant forums to represent the interests of all Australian State and Territory Emergency Service organisations.

 We focus on:

  • Promoting a national brand
  • Ensuring best and consistent standards and practices
  • Representing the interests of emergency service agencies at the national level
  • Encouraging research and funding into issues of national importance
  • Sharing and collaborating on training, skills and equipment, and
  • Promoting networking and professional development opportunities for emergency service personnel.

Our Priorities

Leadership

  • To continue to grow and strengthen the SES brand across Australia.
  • To seek funding to support executive services of ACSES.
  • To build a strong and effective relationship with AFAC.

Advocacy

  • To develop shared positions on agreed priority issues concerning the impact of natural disasters.
  • To promote and increase the profile of ‘all hazard approach’ to emergency management.
  • To consider impacts of land use planning on risks to communities.
  • To progress national policy and procedures for flash flooding and its impacts on communities.
  • To promote and progress the ‘National Strategy for Disaster Resilience'.

Collaboration

  • To identify joint strategic funding and investment opportunities.
  • To develop joint opportunities for building community resilience through engagement and behaviour change programs.
  • To work together to provide support for volunteers and identify opportunities for recruitment and retention of volunteers.

Research

  • To identify research priorities for emergency management.
  • To work collaboratively with industry, universities and government to drive a coordinated and strategic research program.
  • To ensure the needs and opinions of S/TSES’s are represented in any future CRC or Research Institute.

Best Practice

  • To develop national ‘fit for purpose’ standards.
  • To identify agreed areas for national standards.

Professional Development

  • To promote and run a successful ‘SES Week’ every year.
  • To run a successful annual National Disaster Rescue Competition
